New Beginnings

Perched on the banks of the Connecticut River and in the shadow of Mt Ascutney, we have found a place to call home. With wide open fields of river bottom soil, plenty of sun and water, we embark on an incredible journey. In only a few months we have already found a great welcome from our new agricultural community. We are very excited to be able to start planting a much wider range of crops, fruit and raising animals. We hope that each of you will come find us on this amazing piece of land.

There are so many new projects already underway. Of course, getting our greenhouses up is a major priority. Before the ground froze we were able to set up a small germination greenhouse and one big one for tomatoes. Once the weather breaks we will set up our other 2 big ones and the new one Black River Produce assisted us in acquiring. This is a 200 foot three-season hoop house. We will be able to use the for season extension and ramping up our culinary herb production.

Building a cold-storage facility will likely be our biggest project. We anticipate  putting in a full wash facility and large walk-in cooler. With Food Safety a major goal, this operation will implement very strong standards. Again, we want to send a BIG THANKS to the VT Department of Agriculture for a major grant in building a GAP based facility.

There are so many people to thank, the Vermont Land Trust for working so closely with us to bring this project together. Vern Grubinger at UVM Cooperative Extension for helping us develop a plan and find great resources, Paul Harlow for being a friend and steward in all my farming venture, Mike Ghia and Vermont Farm Viability for helping with the technical side of a business plan, FSA and VACC for providing the funding needed and working with our limited resources, and especially each of our customers who have supported our farm for the past 8 years... a deeply heartfelt THANKS!
